DescriptionThe Enigma can be entered from a hatch on the bottom. It has 6 legs, the front two of which end in hands that can be used to make attacks, and possibly even wield weapons. On the front there is a small crystal dome that can be looked out of. At the back of the Enigma is a turret with a single large firearm mounted. Its large, dull, gunmetal form exudes antiquity, as if simply seeing it transports you to a different age.
Inside, there is a central room with four chairs and a table that can be lifted or pushed into the floor. There is a ladder that leads up the back to the turret, to a room with strange glyphs and panels on the wall, and a pair of goggles hanging from a hook. A narrow hallway leads to the front with two chairs, one seated higher, the other lower, directly between the front arms. The front seat has a pair of large gauntlets attached to strange balancing rods, and the top chair has an entirely enclosed helmet connected to a thick cord leading into the ceiling. There are slits on either flank of Enigma that can be opened or closed as a bonus action |
ModulesThe Enigma can house up to six separate modules and an engine. Currently, it has two manipulators (the front arms taking a slot each), a passenger bay (two slots), and the Foxfire Needle. There is still room for one more module to be installed. Equipment carried by the front arms does not count towards the module limit. The engine is small but well built. It can be operated 14 times before running out of fuel. |
Crew
The Enigma requires three people to operate: a pilot, a grappler, and a gunner.
Grappler |
PilotThe pilot operates the Enigma by putting on a full helm. The helm overrides the wearers senses, and allows the pilot to see in a full 360 degree arc around themselves, however this site is limited to 120 feet. Past that distance, the world is dark and unknowable.
While piloting, All checks are made at disadvantage, unless proficient in land vehicles, or you have taken from the heargear. All class feats and racial skills that apply to movement can be used while piloting the Enigma. |
The Grappler may operate the front two arms through a pair of suspended gauntlets. They sit at the front most position, and actually look out the front grill of the Enigma. This mesh and steal barrier makes any sort of perception checks happen at disadvantage.
The two appendages may be used to make unarmed strikes using the Enigma's Strength. Should any appropriate weapons be found, the hands seem to be built with enough dexterity to operate a variety of equipment. In addition, the Grappler can use their reaction to block incoming damage with the massive, techno-organic plating on the arms. All racial and class abilities, as well as proficiencies, that could apply to a melee attack can be used while in this seat. |
GunnerPlacing on the goggles found in the gunners tower allow the crew member to see through the scope on the turret. Currently, there is only a single weapon mounted: the Foxfire Needle. These goggles have been modified to cancel out sunlight sensitivity when not being used to operate the turret.
All racial and class abilities, as well as proficiencies, that could apply to a ranged attack can be used while in this seat. |
Other OperatorsUp to four other people can accompany the three crew members, and the Enigma offers them a variety of actions. There are five glyphs on the central table, each of which can be activated using an action. Only one crew member may use each round of combat.
In addition, there are a number of hatches, pannels and slots that can be opened using a bonus or standard action, allowing the character to see outside the Enigma. This does open them up to being seen themselves, however. |
