Bear- Ursine BarbarianBear has no name outside of what he is. His earliest non-fragmented memories are him wandering the woods. Surviving to the best of his abilities and coming to consciousness. He can speak common and use an axe, but doesn't remember why. He spends his time working as hired muscle or drinking mead at the bar.
His most common ally is an older half elf named Ove with whom he shares a rugged nature, a disdain for small talk, and a complimentary skill set. They frequently freelance as a guide and guard for anyone who has a need to travel or explore the Nocturne countryside. Bear also enjoys a standing business arrangement with Noxia, the apprentice apothecary, for a list of rare herbs he might find while wandering the wilds. |
Haban Kandalanu- Dragonborn RogueHaban left home with her family's blessing to live a clanless life, unheard of by her kind. Unwilling to become a scholar or warrior like her seven siblings, she hitched a ride out of town with unsavory performers. She grew to love and respect her seedy friends, and learned to steal and disguise herself to get by. Haban learned the hard way that superstitious folk value her horns for their supposed medicinal properties, and has woken up to humans trying to remove them more than once. Thus, she harbors a resentment towards the entire race. She ran afoul of the Spinae royal family in Rosecross, but a cunning Kenku named Songbird helped her escape. They now perform, along with Ar'kan, as "Feather's Flame" in the "OnF" tavern.
She carries a black pirate flag with a dragonskull and crossbones sewn for her by a long lost lover named Delphina, a Tiefling who taught her how to perform as a reminder that she has people who care about her. |
Songbird started out as many Kenku do: traveling the roads from town to town looking for their next big score. ahem I mean, looking for friends to talk to and ways to entertain people. She found the town of Harlen and its connection to the Duergar ripe for the picking (dammit, I mean interesting), so she set down roots for the first time in her life and found a way to make a bargain with the Duergar. She became a spy looking to obtain any information on the Duergar weapons and how they were being used. This information could be traded back to them for a weapon she could use, but more importantly, it could be traded for information on how to learn to fly! Being an entertainer is just a cover for her more seedy lifestyle, and she will use that cover to get her into wherever she needs to be.
Lately, she leverages Ar'kan and Haban's talents to get herself into more lucrative situations. |
Vix, Human Bard
Vix started life in an orphanage. While at the orphanage, he instinctively took up manipulative habits that would allow him to find adoptive parents quickly. While he was a kindhearted young child, he learned that parents most wanted to see a child that took after them. He was adopted at the age of 4 by a couple of entertainers. While they were good people, they had egos much larger than their hearts. Incredibly vain, they would scold Vix for presenting as other than "their precious angel." This caused Vix a great deal of insecurities, and began his quest for approval from his peers. He adapted his parents flashy forms of entertainment such as gymnastics and juggling to ensure he stayed the center of attention. Becoming increasingly daring, Vix found himself spinning tall tales one day after a dwarf complimented him on his nimble acrobatic act. After a few drinks the dwarf mentioned she was a fey hunter and Vix found himself boasting his title of Master Fey Hunter (but not really). He showed his boast to be naught but bravado on the hunt itself, and the two returned empty handed. Although, as Vix would tell it his dwarf companion and her cowardly quarry simply failed to meet his vainglorious standards.

Garbo Gimble Gill- Gnome Rogue/ArtificerGarbo Gimble Gill is a wealthy young gnome . . Well, he was before he spent all his gold investing with a Bed & Breakfast in the fanciest district of the Old City. For him, life is about making money and spending it and then making some more, and he's not afraid to roll up his sleeves to do it. Garbo has been fooling customers for a while in Harlen, selling his hand-crafted “magical” baubles and trinkets to anyone gullible enough to fall for his tricks.
More comfortable in a cozy house than in the wild, GGG is still adjusting to the life of an adventurer. |
Krasseabella Necksnapper, Dwarf RangerExiled from her mighty Necksnapper Clan of expert mechanical engineers for "excessive compassion," Krass traveled to the above-lands. For years, her clan has been looking for an object shrouded in secrets and mystery; supposedly something that the Fey have. Despite the large stronghold of Fey in the above-lands, her people never set an expedition to return. Krass is going to find this item in her exile, even if she doesn't have a plan for what to do with it after. Her parting thoughts as the burning sun first struck her eyes were, "Fuck the clan; they were cruel and refused to listen to anything out of the norm, so they don't deserve anything."
One day after a long hunt, she went to a bar where there was a strange performer towards whom she felt the uncommon urge to compliment. After chatting a bit with this Vix, a "master fey hunter" she took him on my next hunt. When he jumped out at a Fey shouting "It's time to meet your end at the hand of Vix" the fey just phased out and he shouted coward; Krass knew she had been duped. Upon returning, they were approached about being "Rangers" and sent to go help a group of adventurers using something called the Enigma. |
Retired PC's
Ove Longways- Half-elf RangerOve was born in the Old City but left under circumstances he’d rather not share with nosy folk who can’t mind their business. He’s been here and there and other places besides, wandering when he saw fit, and finding steady employment as a guide, turning his wanderlust into a source of coin. Ove met Bear, and a partnership blossomed around their shared affinity for open skies, sweeping landscapes, and long periods of silence.
Ove has been in and out of Harlen for decades, but when his 100th birthday was on the horizon he decided it might be time to start putting down roots, and where better to settle than Harlen, his favorite town and home of his sweetheart Tilly. Over the last three years Ove has become a part of Harlen, plying his trade with Bear and providing Noxia with rare herbs. Ove has chosen to take up work with the local militia in order to spend more time with his new family. |
Ar'kan- Aarakocra MonkAr'kan, the one of blue and green feathers,
He who values the art of dance nearly as much as he values the art of fighting, A balanced dance of death and distraction, Flashy, for his more stealthy and mischievous friends. Throughout Ar'kan's entire life he has been a performer. Learning his art of dance along with his unique fighting style from a far off monastery. As time passed he began to travel for longer and longer times away from his home, until he became good friends with Haban, the only dancer he would admit could rival his style with her fire... truth be told, he just didn't want his feathers singed. Along with Songbird, who could probably steal the coins from out of his pockets without him ever knowing it, the three became "Feather's Flame", and Ar'kan was content to never return home.
Ar'Kan has retired from the adventuring life, and can be found performing full time at the OnF. |
Noxia- Half-elf ClericNot a lot is known about this wispy half-elf. Noxia has been living in Harlen for the past 6 years. As an acolyte in service to the Raven Queen, she was sent to the Sacred Botanica in Harlen to learn the art of herbal medicines and potion brewing under the tutelage of Kendal Alander. She has had frequent business dealings with Ove and Bear, who supply her with rare herbs from their travels.
